Sensitive negotiations between Pakistan and Iran... with the nuclear file at the heart of contacts

Pakistani sources revealed that the visit of Pakistan’s interior minister to Iran comes as part of efforts to formulate a specific agreement framework between the two sides, within an ongoing track of political and security contacts.

The sources indicated that the US side has requested clarifications on specific points within the negotiating document, at a time when discussions are under way on a phased approach that can serve as a foundation for the next stage.

They added that the current direction is based on viewing an interim agreement as the only viable option at this stage, while keeping the door open to subsequent negotiations addressing outstanding issues, including the nuclear file.
