Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Al-Bisat inaugurated the solar power station at the Rashid Karami International Fair in Tripoli, funded by the Tripoli and North Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, as part of efforts to support infrastructure and strengthen sustainable energy projects in Lebanon.
On the occasion, Fair Board Chairman Hani Al-Shaarani said the project is one of 104 projects implemented over the past eight months, stressing the importance of combining the efforts of the city’s various components and thanking the Tripoli Chamber and its president, Toufic Dabbousi, for the initiative.
Al-Shaarani stressed that the Rashid Karami Fair is not merely a group of buildings, but an economic and developmental lever capable of driving the productive cycle in Tripoli, the North, and all of Lebanon through the economy of conferences, exhibitions, and knowledge, pointing to the supportive role of the Ministry of Culture, the Directorate General of Antiquities, and UNESCO.
For his part, Tripoli Chamber President Toufic Dabbousi confirmed that understandings had been reached with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and the Minister of Economy on “building a new Lebanon starting from Tripoli,” considering the city qualified to become a pivotal economic platform in the eastern Mediterranean despite regional challenges and the difficult circumstances facing the region.
Dabbousi noted that the current phase requires strengthening security and social stability as a fundamental entry point for any development path, pointing to a series of organizational steps affecting the Rashid Karami Fair, the Special Economic Zone, the Port of Tripoli, and Qlayaat Airport, in addition to projects linked to the oil sector, reflecting an integrated development momentum.
He considered the solar energy project a practical model for clean energy, stressing the importance of partnership between the public and private sectors and praising the role of the Ministry of Economy in accompanying these projects and pushing them toward implementation.
In turn, Minister Al-Bisat stressed that the inauguration of the station represents a practical step in improving the energy situation in Tripoli, affirming that the figures reflect the beginning of a gradual economic recovery at the Rashid Karami Fair, which recently attracted more than 120,000 visitors and witnessed restoration and rehabilitation projects that created new job opportunities.
He explained that the current phase is based on a clear partnership between the state, the private sector, and the local community, considering renewable energy no longer merely an environmental option, but an economic necessity in light of the electricity crisis and rising production costs.
Al-Bisat affirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting clean energy projects, facilitating investment procedures in the North, encouraging sustainable initiatives, and developing logistical infrastructure, particularly at the Port of Tripoli and in industrial zones.
He concluded by stressing that the Rashid Karami Fair possesses the qualifications to become a pivotal economic center, noting that the solar power station marks the beginning of a broader path of development projects and calling for greater investment in Tripoli and the North as a fundamental pillar of Lebanon’s economic revival.
