The Egyptian capital, Cairo, witnessed the signing ceremony of a new agreement aimed at carrying out repair and rehabilitation works on gas pipelines in Lebanon through Egypt’s petroleum sector, represented by the Technical Gas Services Company (TGS).
The signing ceremony took place at the Egyptian government headquarters, where the agreement was signed on the Lebanese side by Minister of Energy and Water Joe Saddi, while the Egyptian side was represented by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Engineer Karim Badawi, in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
Following the signing, Prime Minister Madbouly stressed that “this agreement comes within the framework of supporting and enhancing aspects of cooperation with the Lebanese government across various fields and sectors, particularly the energy sector,” affirming that it constitutes “a practical translation of the outcomes of the visit he made to Beirut last December.”
For his part, Minister Saddi stressed that “the maintenance of gas pipelines in Lebanon is the first practical step within his efforts to shift Lebanon’s energy sector toward production through gas, given the positive impact of this path in reducing production costs and limiting negative environmental repercussions.”
Minister Badawi said that “under the agreement, the Technical Gas Services Company (TGS) will undertake repair and rehabilitation works for gas pipelines extending nearly 30 km, in addition to upgrading the efficiency of pressure reduction and metering stations and the power stations linked to them.
He added that the works include carrying out mechanical installations, updating PLC automated control systems, SCADA supervisory control and data acquisition systems, as well as conducting the necessary technical and operational tests, in preparation for restarting the pipelines and stations with high efficiency and reliability.”
