After government approval... Abu Faour paves the way for municipalities to protect Lebanon’s water

Democratic Gathering MP Wael Abu Faour welcomed the government’s approval of the draft law he had previously submitted to Parliament, aimed at enabling municipalities to grant licenses for the construction of underground tanks on private property designated for collecting rainwater.

Abu Faour explained in a statement that this step represents an entry point to strengthening water resource management by curbing the growing depletion of groundwater and encouraging reliance on surface water, amid the worsening effects of climate change and the increasing frequency of droughts and water scarcity.

He noted that the licenses would be exempt from fees and taxes, provided that all required legal conditions and standards are met, in a way that ensures safe implementation and achieves the intended environmental objective.

Abu Faour expressed hope that the proposal would complete its legislative path in Parliament in preparation for its approval as soon as possible, given its importance in confronting the water crisis and mitigating its environmental repercussions on Lebanon.
