The US State Department said that Hezbollah’s continued armament and its refusal to give up its weapons constitute an obstacle to achieving stability in Lebanon.
Washington announced a reward of up to $10 million for information that could disrupt the party’s financial mechanisms, as part of what it described as steps to confront its sources of funding.
It stressed that these measures are “only the beginning,” warning that any entity cooperating with Hezbollah will be subject to accountability and prosecution.
The State Department also underscored the need for the Lebanese government to restore its exclusive authority over all security matters in the country, in a way that ensures greater stability and the assertion of state sovereignty.
