A dust-laden sandstorm originating from the desert regions of North Africa has begun reaching Lebanon, covering coastal areas, including Beirut, with thick layers of dust. The phenomenon, known locally as Khamsin winds, is expected to gradually subside within two days, according to the Lebanese Meteorological Service. Authorities have issued warnings about reduced visibility and potential respiratory issues.
Precautionary Measures:
Stay indoors: Avoid going outside unless necessary, especially for individuals with allergies or asthma.
Protect nose and mouth: Use a mask or a damp cloth to cover your nose and mouth if venturing outdoors.
Protect eyes: Wear protective glasses to shield your eyes from dust.
Close windows: Keep doors and windows tightly shut to prevent dust from entering homes.
Drive cautiously: Reduce speed and use vehicle lights due to limited visibility.
Such sandstorms are common at this time of year and are part of Lebanon’s springtime weather patterns.
