
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam received at the Grand Serail before noon today Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani, in the presence of Chinese Embassy Counselor Zhang Chun, a number of members of the Chinese diplomatic mission, a delegation from a Chinese company specializing in developing the medicinal plants sector, and the head of the regulatory authority for cannabis cultivation in Lebanon, Dani Fadel.
During the meeting, discussions focused on developing the medicinal plants sector in Lebanon through the establishment of specialized laboratories in cooperation with the Lebanese University.
Minister Hani said after the meeting: “We came with a Chinese company interested in the issue of cannabis cultivation and all medical and industrial extracts, as well as everything related to medicinal plants.
This is a company specialized in modernizing laboratories and producing oils according to the highest standards for medical uses, in addition to uses related to cosmetic products.”
He added: “The company is very large and has branches in a number of countries, and it is interested in establishing a branch in Lebanon.”
He continued: “Since we are talking about medicinal plants and cannabis cultivation, the ministry’s role will be to facilitate its work, and it will be linked with farmers and Lebanese companies, in cooperation with the regulatory authority for cannabis cultivation in Lebanon.”
He pointed out that “the company met yesterday with the president of the Lebanese University in order to establish a laboratory at the university in accordance with the highest international standards.”
