U.S. President Donald Trump announced, in remarks to NewsNation, the start of talks with Iran in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, indicating that it would not take long to assess their course.
He said: “Talks with Iran in Islamabad have officially begun.”
He added: “It won’t take long to know whether the Iranian delegation is acting in good faith.”
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Trump affirmed that traffic there would soon return to normal, noting that alternative options for maritime transport exist.
He explained: “The Strait of Hormuz will be reopened in the not-too-distant future.”
He stressed that “everyone now realizes there are other alternatives to passing through the Strait of Hormuz.”
He also denied any link between his recent remarks about oil tanker movements and the situation in the strait, saying:
“My recent post about many tankers heading to America to load oil has nothing to do with the situation in Hormuz.”
