U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has not yet given his final approval to a multibillion-dollar military supply package for Taiwan, indicating that the decision will be made at a later stage depending on developments.
Trump said in press remarks: “I have not approved it yet, and we will see what happens,” while stressing at the same time that U.S. policy toward Taiwan has not changed and asserting that his country “is not seeking to wage wars.”
Meanwhile, China continues its repeated rejection of any U.S. arms sales to the island, affirming that Taiwan is an integral part of its territory and warning that such steps constitute a violation of the “One China” principle and heighten tensions in the region.
