French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot informed his Lebanese counterpart, Youssef Rajji, that France intends to request an emergency session of the UN Security Council in light of the ongoing Israeli escalation in Lebanon, the widening scope of military operations, and the accompanying evacuation orders in a number of areas.
During the call, Barrot renewed France’s solidarity with Lebanon and its support at this delicate stage, stressing Paris’s commitment to respecting Lebanon’s full sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The French foreign minister also affirmed his country’s support for the direct negotiating track, considering it the most viable path to reaching a lasting and sustainable settlement that would end the crisis and provide the foundations for stability and security in the region.
