Key remarks made by President Joseph Aoun before a delegation from the Democratic Gathering:
Positions marked by national rationality can provide the necessary support for the course of negotiations that will begin after the ceasefire is consolidated. It is important for the Lebanese to engage with the unity of the national position in order to strengthen the Lebanese negotiating team vis-à-vis the Israeli negotiating delegation, so that it cannot exploit any internal loophole to achieve its objectives.
Lebanon’s ambassador to Washington, Nada Hamadeh Mouawad, will represent Lebanon at the preparatory meeting scheduled for tomorrow at the U.S. State Department, where she will raise the issue of extending the deadline of the ceasefire agreement and Israel’s halt to demolition operations in southern villages and towns.
Lebanon’s approach in the anticipated negotiations is clear: no concessions, no bargaining, and no surrender except to what secures Lebanese sovereignty and serves the interests of all Lebanese.
