US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, in remarks addressing his country’s defense posture, called for a reconsideration of the structure of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in a way that would, in his words, “return it to its combat roots” and strengthen the principle of burden-sharing among allies.
Pete Hegseth, the US Secretary of War, said that “burden-sharing is a central part of our strategy in the Middle East, and our allies and partners in the region can do much more to advance our shared interests.”
He added that “Israel is a model ally that has proven it has the ability and the willingness to fight alongside our forces,” stressing that his country “faces a complex threat environment across different theaters of operation.”
