
Marwan al-Nafie, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of the Port of Beirut, received on Tuesday British Ambassador to Lebanon Hamish Cowell, accompanied by Simon Parker, head of the field coordination team, Major Thomas Hobbs, deputy military attaché, and George Dodds-Smith, development projects adviser, during a meeting in which the general situation at the port was reviewed.
During the meeting, al-Nafie provided an overview of the workflow, particularly in light of the current challenges, stressing the efforts being made to maintain continuity of operations and enhance the level of services, alongside reform steps aimed at modernizing the operational infrastructure and improving safety and transparency standards.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Cowell and the accompanying delegation toured the port, where they were briefed on cargo loading and unloading operations at the container terminal. They also visited the scanners site, where he expressed interest in the level of security and safety measures in place, praising the efforts made to ensure the continuity of this vital facility and affirming his country’s readiness to support the port in its path toward development and strengthening its operational capabilities.
