Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf warned of mounting pressures facing his country, saying the current phase carries complex economic and security dimensions amid what he described as external attempts to impose a blockade and exert direct effects on Iran’s domestic situation.
In his remarks, he said that “the enemy, in its new plan, is seeking through a maritime blockade to exert economic pressure,” adding that “the enemy pinned great hopes on economic pressure, and it is clear that it once again received false reports and, based on them, made a wrong decision.”
He continued, saying that “the enemy is counting on economic pressure, and among the signs of this are the new US measures in the Strait of Hormuz and the maritime blockade,” noting that “the enemy is seeking through the maritime blockade to apply economic pressure and work to dismantle the country’s cohesion in order to force us to surrender.”
He stressed that “the Iranian people possess historical awareness and have realized that they must stand firm against this criminal enemy no matter how great the difficulties,” pointing out that “it is the duty of all officials in Iran to cooperate in order to reduce the impact of economic pressures on the people.”
He added: “We must all realize that we are fighting one of the biggest wars in contemporary Iran.”
He explained, “The final victory in this war will make Iran an active player in the international order, and that will serve as a prelude to the country’s material and moral progress. Naturally, achieving this great accomplishment will be accompanied by difficulties.”
He appealed, saying: “I ask all citizens to rationalize consumption and to urge others to do the same as well.”
He pointed out that “today is the time to help one another inside Iran so that we can prevail with the least possible suffering.”
He added that “the American people will be the ones most harmed by the wrong US decisions, as they will face rising living costs.”
He warned, saying: “We do not rule out the possibility of a military attack, especially terrorist attacks.”
He concluded by stressing that “the enemy is placing great hopes on economic pressure, and it is clear that it has once again received false reports and, based on them, made wrong decisions.”
