Minister of Economy and Trade, Amer Al-Bassat, issued Decision No. 18, which sets the price and weight of Lebanese bread: medium-sized loaves must weigh no less than 800 grams, small loaves no less than 400 grams, with the price of the medium loaf remaining at 70,000 LBP and the small loaf at 45,000 LBP.
The decision also confirmed a reduction in the weight of the loaves.
Antoine Saif, the head of the Bakers’ Association in Mount Lebanon, noted that the weight reduction comes in response to rising costs in bread production, particularly the increase in diesel prices—exceeding $1,000 per ton—higher transportation costs, and the increased use of private generators.
Saif emphasized that flour and bread supplies remain secured.
