MP Fouad Makhzoumi wrote on his X platform account: “Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, the Lebanese people are not protected by slogans but by decisions. Following what we have witnessed in terms of using Lebanese civilians as human shields in Aisha Bakkar, Raouche, Baabda, Sidon, Jnah, and most recently in Ain Saadeh:
Calling for an immediate meeting of the Higher Defense Council and adopting exceptional security measures while raising readiness to the highest level
Strengthening the army’s deployment and activating the role of security and intelligence agencies decisively
Enforcing the proper registration of all tenants and occupants, subjecting vacant apartments to periodic monitoring, and imposing strict penalties, including imprisonment, for any unauthorized rental or occupancy
After the incidents in Aisha Bakkar and Raouche, I proposed conducting a survey of vacant apartments and regulating rentals in Beirut during an official meeting at the Beirut Emergency Operations Room.
However, this proposal was met with accusations from media outlets affiliated with Hezbollah and the deep state, labeling it as ‘spying,’ while its sole objective was to protect citizens.
So far, no practical steps have been taken.”
