International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi announced that Kazakhstan has expressed readiness to host Iran’s stockpile of uranium enriched to levels close to military use, as part of any potential nuclear agreement between the United States and Iran.
Grossi said in remarks to British media that the Kazakh proposal was discussed during his meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in the capital, Astana, noting that the proposal draws on Kazakhstan’s previous experience hosting an international low-enriched uranium bank under international supervision and monitoring.
This development comes amid international efforts to revive nuclear understandings and establish mechanisms to ensure that Iranian enrichment levels are curbed within arrangements subject to international oversight.
