Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri revealed that the United States is making an effort to extend the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel. President Joseph Aoun affirmed that “Lebanon will handle the bilateral negotiations through a delegation headed by Ambassador Simon Karam, and no one will join Lebanon in this mission or take its place.”
This came after a visit by the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon, Michel Issa, to both Aoun and Berri, his first trip to Beirut since the announcement of the temporary 10-day truce, without making any media statements.
In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, Berri stressed that there is a U.S. effort to extend the ceasefire, but declined to disclose his position on the direct negotiation process with Israel that the president is planning.
