American sources told MTV Lebanon that U.S. President Donald Trump does not view President Joseph Aoun’s visit to the White House as a protocol step, but rather ties it to achieving tangible results on the ground, noting that the U.S. administration is asking Lebanon for a clear position to be conveyed by the U.S. ambassador to President Trump.
The sources added that Washington is not proposing the idea of a traditional meeting between Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but is instead seeking a “political moment” that could open the door to a peace track between Lebanon and Israel.
In a related context, MTV Lebanon reported information indicating displeasure with the approach of some Lebanese political forces, which, according to the wording used, remain outside the logic of the state and are unable to keep pace with the new political phase.
