The Director General of the National Social Security Fund, Mohammad Karki, issued a new decision, No. 282, providing for the payment of financial advances to hospitals and doctors contracted with the Fund worth nearly LBP 315 billion, covering the cost of 4,660 hospitalization claims for insured patients who received treatment at the Fund’s expense.
This brings the total amount paid by the Fund to cover hospitalization expenses alone (excluding dialysis) since the start of the current year to about LBP 1,917 billion, ensuring the uninterrupted admission of patients to hospitals. This is in addition to about LBP 526 billion and 171 million, the cost of treating dialysis patients, which is covered 100% by the NSSF. Accordingly, total spending within hospitals has so far reached around LBP 2,443 billion.
The Director General renewed his call on all hospitals and doctors to “abide by the official tariffs set by the Fund’s administration and not impose any additional financial burdens on insured patients beyond their means,” stressing that he “will not hesitate to take all necessary punitive measures against violators when required.”
He announced that “in the coming few days, he will undertake a series of initiatives to ease the financial burdens and pressures facing Lebanon’s medical and hospital sector.”
