Chinese president: New understandings with Washington open a different path in bilateral relations

China’s state news agency quoted Chinese President Xi Jinping as affirming that U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent visit was described as historic and helped shape a new vision for strategic relations between Beijing and Washington.

Xi noted that the two sides agreed to strengthen channels of communication and coordination on international and regional issues, reflecting a trend toward more stable management of relations between the two countries.

He added that the Trump administration is seeking to restore “America’s greatness,” while China continues its commitment to leading the course of the “great national rejuvenation,” considering that the two ambitions can converge within a framework of mutual understanding.

The Chinese president stressed that Beijing and Washington can achieve mutual economic and developmental progress by expanding areas of cooperation and strengthening their partnership, in a way that serves the interests of both countries and global stability.
