The Ministry of Economy announced shocking figures on the scale of losses incurred by the national economy over more than a decade of conflict, amid a broad collapse in infrastructure and a sharp decline across various vital sectors.
Yemen’s Ministry of Economy revealed that economic losses exceeded $458 billion during 11 years of war and blockade, with widespread destruction of infrastructure, stalled projects, and many facilities put out of operation, in addition to the layoff of about 60% of workers and unemployment rising to 65%.
It explained that the losses affected key sectors, most notably agriculture, trade, industry, and oil, in addition to transport, electricity, water, and tourism, reflecting the depth of the crisis’s impact on the various pillars of the economy.
