U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform:
“I have just had excellent talks with the highly respected Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, and with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. These two leaders have agreed that, in order to achieve peace between their countries, they will officially begin a 10-day ceasefire at 5 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time.
On Tuesday, the two countries met for the first time in 34 years here in Washington, D.C., in the presence of our great Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
I have instructed Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Rubio, in cooperation with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine, to work with Israel and Lebanon to achieve lasting peace.
It has been an honor for me to help resolve 9 wars around the world, and this will be the tenth — let’s get it done!”
