Yemen’s Coast Guard Authority announced the interception of two wooden boats in the waters of the Gulf of Aden carrying 340 undocumented migrants from African countries, including women and children, on what was described as a perilous journey amid harsh humanitarian conditions.
In an official statement, the authority said the interception took place south of the city of Aden, where first aid and initial assistance were provided to the migrants immediately after their rescue, alongside coordination with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to complete humanitarian procedures in accordance with approved international laws and standards.
Yemeni authorities also confirmed the arrest of a number of individuals involved in human smuggling operations, noting that they will be referred to the competent judiciary to face the necessary legal measures.
