As part of ongoing efforts to monitor the humanitarian situation of displaced people from the South, Beirut’s southern suburbs, and the Bekaa—due to the Israeli war on Lebanon—Minister of Labor Dr. Mohammad Haidar continued his field visits today to shelters and schools hosting displaced families in Beirut and Bchamoun.
He began his tour at Hussein Massoud Public Secondary School in Bchamoun, before heading to Beirut, where he visited Al-Bayader School in the Watawat–Zarif area. During the visits, he met with a number of displaced individuals, listened to their needs, and held discussions with those managing the shelters. The minister was accompanied by his advisor, Dr. Hussein Mouhaidli.
At the end of the tour, Minister Haidar addressed the media, stating:
“We conducted a morning field tour of several shelter centers, including Hussein Massoud Public Secondary School in Bchamoun and Al-Bayader School in the Zarif area of Beirut, with the aim of directly assessing the conditions of the displaced and identifying their needs.
First, we extend our thanks to all those running these centers. Overall, the services provided are good, despite some minor shortcomings that we are working to address.
These include delays in the delivery of certain medications, food supplies, and fuel, as well as limited shortages in other essential items.
This tour aimed to listen to the needs firsthand and work on meeting them, while preventing any shortcomings that could negatively impact the lives of those staying in these centers. We are working to manage this phase and mitigate its repercussions as much as possible, in an effort to ensure a minimum level of stability and comfort.
We hope this war will end as soon as possible, so that everyone can return safely to their homes. We also salute all those working in these centers—from school administrations to various concerned bodies—who are making great efforts day and night to meet the needs of the displaced despite limited resources.
We understand that fully meeting all needs may not be possible under the current circumstances. However, efforts are ongoing, and we, as a government, affirm that we will coordinate with all relevant ministries to address these gaps as quickly as possible and provide everything necessary to improve conditions in the shelters.”
