The official education leagues announced in a statement that, during their meeting within the Gathering of Public Sector Leagues, they discussed educational developments and the severe living conditions facing professors and teachers, amid what they described as a continuing policy of procrastination in addressing the rights of public sector employees, particularly in the education sector.
The leagues noted that over the past two weeks they had taken the initiative to carry out protests and partial strikes after receiving positive indications that the draft law to open the necessary appropriations for salaries would be referred to Parliament. However, the postponement of the legislative session led to further delay in approving these dues.
The statement considered that the continued postponement is worsening the living crisis, especially as any increases have lost their real value in the face of the sharp rise in prices, stressing that what is happening is negatively affecting educational and social stability.
The leagues praised the efforts of the Gathering of Public Sector Leagues in following up on the issue, which resulted in confirmation that the draft law to open appropriations would be included on the agenda of the first legislative session, while at the same time warning against any further stalling or circumvention of rights because of the serious repercussions this would have on the education sector.
They called for an urgent legislative session before Eid al-Adha to approve the appropriations and disburse the dues, away from any delay or pretexts, stressing that Parliament’s ordinary session is nearing its end at the close of May.
In this context, the leagues announced their commitment to carrying out a comprehensive strike on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, covering secondary schools, public schools, vocational institutes, teacher training colleges, educational guidance centers, in addition to the relevant educational administrations.
The leagues affirmed that they would continue what they described as the battle to correct salaries and restore rights to what they were before 2019, in a way that guarantees improved living conditions for teachers, preserves the dignity of the educator, and strengthens the role and stability of public schooling.
