U.S. envoy to Syria and Turkey, Tom Barrack, firmly denied reports suggesting that Washington is pushing Syria to send forces into Lebanon, stressing that such claims are “false and inaccurate.”
Barrack’s statement came in response to a Reuters report citing an informed source, which claimed that the United States had encouraged Syria to consider deploying forces to eastern Lebanon to assist in the process of disarming Hezbollah.
According to the report, the Syrian side is treating this proposal with caution, amid concerns about being drawn into a broader conflict in the Middle East and the potential security repercussions, including escalating sectarian tensions in the region.
