Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said, in a message addressed to Pope Leo XIV, that shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz will return to normal as soon as the current state of tension and insecurity ends, noting that his country will continue to implement professional and effective monitoring and oversight mechanisms within the framework of international law to ensure the security of this strategic waterway.
Pezeshkian stressed that the Iranian people have historically lived in peace and coexistence with neighboring countries, considering that the current situation in the strait is the result of “illegal attacks” and the use of land and airspace in hostile acts against Iran, in addition to what he described as the blockade imposed on it.
The Iranian president also reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the path of diplomacy and dialogue, alongside its right to defend itself in accordance with international law, welcoming any international mediation efforts and emphasizing the pursuit of peaceful solutions to the crisis.
