Leader of the Strong Lebanon Bloc, MP Gebran Bassil, speaking from Baabda Palace:
“We began a round of meetings with officials, starting with His Excellency the President, driven by our deep concern over the serious threats facing Lebanon both internally and externally.
We proposed an initiative aimed at protecting Lebanon through dialogue among Lebanese, not confrontation.
We put forward three main ideas. The first is an internal code of conduct that rejects violence and political or media incitement, and upholds the state as the ultimate reference, especially during disputes.
We emphasized commitment to Lebanon’s unity across its entire territory and rejection of any rhetoric that could lead to division or internal tension.
The second idea calls for all Lebanese to reject any internal sedition, reject the Israeli occupation, and reject any foreign interference in Lebanon’s affairs.
The third idea concerns the solution, which we see as the exclusive possession of weapons by the Lebanese Army and the state, along with a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.
The solution also includes keeping Lebanon neutral and adopting a national defense strategy implemented by the government, leading to a just peace that guarantees all Lebanese rights.
We affirmed that this initiative aims to bring Lebanese together at the dialogue table instead of conflict, as a national responsibility under the auspices of the President.
We stressed our support for the Presidency and legitimacy, even if we are in the opposition, because protecting the presidency and the state remains a national priority.”
