President Joseph Aoun told a delegation of heads of municipal unions and mukhtars from the Akkar region:
Akkar is the reservoir of the military institution, and its people have always yearned for the state and have never been outside it; rather, the state was at times absent from the region. Today, however, it is our duty to give Akkar the necessary attention and carry out the essential development projects for it.
A tender to operate Rene Moawad Airport in Qlayaat will soon be launched, as well as a tender for a study of the railway line between Tripoli, Abdah, and Akkar.
General Security centers are ready to begin work, while the military hospital and the Lebanese University projects are under study.
You are Lebanese who live under the shade of the Lebanese flag alone and carry only the Lebanese identity, regardless of your sectarian, denominational, or political affiliation. As we have experienced, and as you have experienced with us over the years, nothing remains for us except the state, which alone protects us all across the country.
Our country is like a bird with two wings, Muslim and Christian; if one of them is broken, it will no longer be able to fly. We have seen that in Lebanon no group has ever truly prevailed over another, nor has any group ever had superiority over another. On the contrary, if the roof of the house collapses, it falls on the heads of all the nation’s sons.
