A U.S. Position on the Escalation on the Lebanese Front

Al Jazeera quoted a U.S. official as saying that Hezbollah had ignored repeated requests to cease fire against Israel, including what he described as “the final warning.”

The official added that Israel would respond to any attacks targeting its forces or civilians, noting that “this is not the Biden administration.”

According to the same source, Hezbollah has launched around 1,000 drones and 700 rockets since April 17, with the aim of obstructing the ongoing negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.

The official also held the group fully responsible for the current escalation, accusing it of violating the ceasefire since the beginning of March, in his words.

He concluded by saying that Hezbollah “is seeking to deprive the Lebanese of the opportunity to achieve peace and reconstruction.”
