U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the United States intends to impose new measures targeting Iran’s aviation sector as part of stepped-up pressure on Tehran, Agence France-Presse reported.
Bessent said in a post on X that the forthcoming measures would include barring Iran’s two national carriers from accessing aircraft ramps, in addition to restricting refueling operations and the sale of travel tickets.
The U.S. secretary did not provide further details regarding implementation mechanisms or when these measures would take effect.
In a related context, Bessent stressed that “reaching a satisfactory outcome through negotiations” is the only way to end what he described as the ongoing “cycle of escalation.”
