According to Al Jadeed, “No official request to dismiss Army Commander Rudolf Heikal has reached Lebanon, although there is international dissatisfaction with his performance, particularly following the controversy caused by the army’s statement after the Israeli landing operation.”
The sources also revealed “that there is currently no intention to dismiss the army commander because Lebanon is in a state of war, and it is preferable to avoid any changes in the leadership of the military institution.”
In the same context, the information indicated that “an internal discussion is ongoing regarding potential successors for the army commander, focusing on the names of Major General Tony Qahwaji, Director of Laboratories, and Major General George Rizkallah, Director of Operations; however, President Aoun insists on keeping Heikal in his position and supports him.”
The sources further noted that “Prime Minister Nawaf Salam will meet with Army Commander Rudolf Heikal at the Grand Serail to follow up on the implementation of government decisions, and they will also address the army’s latest statement following the Israeli landing operation.”
