U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday the killing of Abu Bilal al-Minouki, ISIS’s second-in-command globally, during a joint operation carried out by U.S. forces in cooperation with the Nigerian armed forces.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump said the operation was carried out “under my direct orders,” describing it as “an extremely complex mission planned with great precision,” which resulted in the elimination of “one of the most dangerous terrorists in the world.”
He added that al-Minouki “thought he could hide in Africa,” noting that the United States had been tracking his movements through “precise intelligence sources.”
Trump stressed that al-Minouki’s death would limit the group’s ability to carry out global terrorist operations, noting that he “will no longer be able to plan attacks against Americans or terrorize the peoples of Africa.”
The U.S. president also thanked the Nigerian government for its cooperation in carrying out the operation, saying the security partnership between the two countries had helped achieve this accomplishment.
