Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam received a delegation from the Progressive Socialist Party and the Democratic Gathering, headed by MP Tammam Jumblatt, in the presence of Ministers Haneen Al-Sayyed, Fayez Rassamni, and Nizar Hani.
After the meeting, MP Bilal Abdullah, speaking on behalf of the delegation, said: “We were honored to visit Prime Minister Salam as a delegation led by party leader Tammam Jumblatt and the crisis cell in Mount Lebanon to follow up on the situation of our displaced citizens across various regions of the mountains, in coordination with the relevant official authorities and municipalities. From day one, we insisted that our work as a crisis cell be conducted through state institutions concerned with health, social, and relief aspects. Our comrade Tammam Jumblatt praised the efforts of the government despite the magnitude of the crisis, and what we observe on the ground, especially in Mount Lebanon, gives positive indications regarding the work of institutions in relief efforts, whether through the Central Disaster Management Authority or the ministries, particularly the Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Energy, and the South Council.”
MP Jumblatt also noted that the state is present daily, particularly through the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Affairs, via health centers and primary healthcare services.
Abdullah added: “There is full awareness of the needs of displaced persons in all areas of the mountains, which we observe daily. Prime Minister Salam has also shown great care for the displaced, assuring us that no displaced person and no citizen in need will be neglected. We witnessed this commitment in the presence of Ministers Al-Sayyed, Rassamni, and Hani, where all these issues were discussed. The government’s efforts in this file deserve recognition despite the increasing demands and the state’s limited financial resources. We were also reminded of the importance of relying on the international community, which has pledged approximately $308 million in aid to cover health, social, and relief needs.”
He continued: “We also discussed the educational sector and the school year, as well as healthcare and the need to expedite payments due to hospitals, along with the needs of host families facing difficult conditions and accommodating a number of displaced persons.”
The discussion with the Prime Minister also addressed food distribution mechanisms. Jumblatt stressed the importance of maintaining positive relations between residents and displaced persons. Both he and the Progressive Socialist Party shared this concern with Prime Minister Salam, emphasizing the importance of internal national unity and preserving a positive social climate, which is a safeguard for Lebanon. The war will end sooner or later, but the priority is to prevent any internal tensions and ensure no conflicts arise between residents and displaced persons. This issue was a major part of the discussion, and Prime Minister Salam shared our concerns, committing to exert all efforts with the security agencies to monitor this file. He also emphasized approaching the matter politically and ensuring that the environment does not become tense.
