US President Donald Trump announced in a post on the Truth Social platform that Iran must clearly commit to not possessing a nuclear weapon or developing a nuclear bomb, stressing the need to immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation “without any fees or restrictions and in both directions.”
Trump noted that the United States had recently destroyed a number of naval mines using advanced minesweepers, calling on Iran to complete the removal of those that remain “immediately,” saying their number “will not be large.”
He also spoke of the imminent end of what he described as an “unprecedented naval blockade,” urging ships stranded in the strait to prepare to return to their normal destinations, in a sign of an anticipated easing in maritime traffic.
On the nuclear file, Trump revealed that enriched material buried beneath facilities damaged by strikes carried out months ago by US B-2 bombers would be extracted in coordination among the United States, Iran, and the International Atomic Energy Agency in preparation for its destruction, noting that Washington and Beijing possess the technical capabilities needed to carry out the operation.
Trump concluded by indicating that no financial exchange would take place “until further notice,” explaining that additional provisions had been agreed upon, before announcing that he was heading to the “Situation Room” to make the final decision on the agreement.
