Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Metri emphasized several key points regarding the current situation in Lebanon in an interview with Al Jazeera:
“No one has responded yet to the President’s proposals regarding the situation in Lebanon.”
“The United States is urging Lebanon to expedite the disarmament of Hezbollah.”
“We need to halt hostilities and enable our army to carry out Hezbollah disarmament.”
“The government considers Hezbollah’s and the Revolutionary Guard’s operations as a pretext for the occupation to continue its aggressions.”
“Israel’s behavior indicates that it does not care about implementing Resolution 1701 and last November’s agreement.”
Metri noted that Lebanon faces significant challenges that require concerted efforts to halt escalation and enable the state to exercise its sovereignty across the entire country, stressing that any delay in addressing the situation increases risks to national security and stability.
