
Marwan Nefi, Chairman of the Board and Director General of the Port of Beirut, received yesterday, Thursday, the European Union Ambassador to Lebanon, Sandra De Waele, at the head of a delegation that included Security Sector Programmes Manager Inge Zorn, Head of Cooperation Alessandra Viezzer, and her deputy, Cyril Dewaley, on an official visit to the port.
During the meeting, Ambassador De Waele affirmed the European Union’s support for the development path of the Port of Beirut, stressing the importance of keeping pace with its future vision and strengthening its capabilities as a pivotal facility in regional and international trade, in a way that opens the door to expanding prospects of cooperation with international partners.
For his part, Nefi outlined the efforts being made to improve performance and raise the level of efficiency and transparency at both the technical and administrative levels, in a manner that reinforces the port’s position as a strategic facility within regional and international supply chains.
At the conclusion of the visit, the delegation conducted a field tour that included the container terminal, where they were briefed on the progress of operational activities. The tour also included the site of the scanners, where their role in strengthening customs oversight and regulating inspection operations was presented, ensuring the swift flow of goods with high efficiency.
