On the 49th anniversary of the assassination of the national leader Kamal Jumblatt, President Joseph Aoun said:
“Despite the difficult circumstances Lebanon is currently facing, today we recall the journey of a man who marked a turning point in Lebanon’s political and intellectual history, carrying a reformist vision and a deep belief in the values of freedom, justice, and dialogue among the country’s communities.
The late leader left behind a rich national and intellectual legacy and paid with his life for his positions and convictions in defending a free and sovereign Lebanon, and a state of justice and institutions.
This painful anniversary remains an occasion to reaffirm our adherence to the values for which Kamal Jumblatt fought, foremost among them the unity of the Lebanese people, the consolidation of coexistence, and the work toward building a strong and just state that protects all its citizens.
May God have mercy on Kamal Jumblatt and protect Lebanon.”
