Iranian sources told Fars News Agency that U.S. President Donald Trump backed down from carrying out military strikes after realizing that Iran’s targets include all vital facilities across West Asia. The sources stressed that there has been no direct or indirect contact between Tehran and Washington, whether through intermediaries or other channels.
Tasnim News Agency also quoted an Iranian security official as saying that Iran’s military threats have gained credibility, and that the five-day deadline set by Trump reflects Washington’s continued plans. The official affirmed that Iran will continue to respond and defend the country with full force, adding: “No negotiations are being proposed or conducted, the Strait of Hormuz will not return to its previous state, and energy markets will not stabilize.”
Meanwhile, Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that the United States and Iran had held very productive talks over the past two days, stating:
“I am pleased to announce that the United States and Iran have conducted very good and highly productive talks regarding a comprehensive resolution to the state of hostility between us in the Middle East. Based on the substance and tone of these in-depth and constructive discussions, I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iran’s energy facilities and infrastructure for five days, contingent on the success of ongoing meetings and discussions.”
