In a statement, the Photographers' Syndicate condemned “what a number of media professionals in the Marjayoun area were subjected to,” namely: Lotfallah Daher, correspondent for LBCI; Karamallah Daher, correspondent for Reuters; Roger Nahra, correspondent for MTV; and Rabih Daher, correspondent for Agence France-Presse, during a tour in the town of Debbine to document the scale of the destruction and the return of residents to the town.
While renewing its “warning against harming the media body,” the syndicate stressed that it “will follow up on this incident, during which fellow journalists were subjected to beatings, insults, verbal abuse, accusations of treason and collaboration, and the smashing of their private cars.”
It added that “Information Minister Paul Morcos, Interior Minister Ahmad Hajjar, and Syndicate head Ali Alloush will pursue the matter at the highest levels, until the maximum measures are taken against the assailants and all relevant agencies are notified.”
The syndicate further said that “Morcos condemned the incident, stressing the need to guarantee journalists’ safety,” explaining that “Hajjar confirmed that the incident involving media workers in Debbine is being followed up by Army Intelligence and the Internal Security Forces.”
