
Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam chaired a meeting dedicated to discussing the electricity sector, attended by Minister of Energy and Water Joseph Saddi, Minister of Finance Yassine Jaber, and Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Bisat, while representatives of both the International Finance Corporation and the World Bank joined the meeting remotely.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the progress achieved in the energy sector reform track led by the Ministry of Energy and Water and Electricité du Liban.
They also discussed appropriate guarantee instruments to attract private-sector financing, with the aim of:
First: bringing in a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to secure a reliable source of gas for the Deir Ammar plant;
Second: upgrading the existing Deir Ammar plant (465 megawatts) and extending its operational lifespan;
Third: designing, financing, operating, and maintaining a new plant in Deir Ammar (825 megawatts).
