
Interior and Municipalities Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar held a security meeting in his office, attended by Director General of the Internal Security Forces Major General Raed Abdullah, Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud, Secretary of the Central Internal Security Council Brigadier General Sami Nassif, Beirut Police Commander Brigadier General Imad Al-Jammal, and Head of the Information Branch Brigadier General Mahmoud Qobrosli.
The meeting reviewed the overall security situation in the country, with Minister Al-Hajjar briefed by those present on the operational measures and procedures being carried out by the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces in various regions, particularly in the capital, Beirut.
In this context, Al-Hajjar called for the continued implementation of security measures in coordination with the Lebanese Army, stressing that “preserving security and stability is a top priority, especially at this delicate stage Lebanon is going through.”
Stemming from the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities’ commitment to protecting internal stability, ensuring the safety of demonstrators and citizens, and safeguarding state institutions as well as public and private property, he stressed the importance of preserving the right to demonstrate and express oneself peacefully within the legal framework, at a time that requires the highest degree of awareness and national responsibility.
Minister Al-Hajjar also stressed “the need for those concerned with any demonstration, gathering, or sit-in to comply with the mechanism of submitting prior notification to the competent governor for a decision on the necessary organizational measures based on proposals by the Internal Security Forces, in implementation of Ministry of Interior and Municipalities Decision No. 1024 dated March 29, 2006.”
