In a stance reflecting a firm approach to ongoing regional developments, Reuters reported that a senior Iranian official confirmed that Tehran will not link any step related to the Strait of Hormuz to arrangements involving a temporary ceasefire, amid continued tensions.
The official said: “Tehran will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for a temporary ceasefire”.
Regarding ongoing diplomatic efforts, he noted that Iran has received a proposal from Pakistan, indicating that it is currently under review without haste, while emphasizing the rejection of any external pressure or imposed deadlines.
He added: “Tehran has received Pakistan’s proposal and is reviewing it, and will not accept deadlines or any pressure”.
Assessing the US position, the official considered that Washington is not showing sufficient seriousness toward achieving a comprehensive de-escalation, noting that Tehran sees no real indications of readiness for a lasting ceasefire.
He concluded: “Tehran believes that the United States is not ready for a permanent ceasefire”.
