The Iraqi Security Media Cell announced on Friday the formation of a joint high-level coordination committee between Iraq and the United States of America, within the framework of the strategic partnership and ongoing cooperation between the two countries in political, economic, and security fields.
The cell stated in a communiqué that “the first meeting of the committee, held on March 26, 2026, saw both sides agree to intensify joint cooperation to prevent terrorist attacks, ensure that Iraqi territory is not used as a launchpad for any aggression targeting the Iraqi people, security forces, or strategic facilities and assets, and to protect U.S. personnel, diplomatic missions, and international coalition forces.”
The statement added that “both parties reaffirmed their commitment to keeping Iraq out of the ongoing regional military conflict, with full respect for its sovereignty, and to support efforts to prevent the use of its territory, airspace, and territorial waters to threaten Iraq or neighboring countries.”
It also noted that “both sides renewed their commitment to coordinating counterterrorism efforts, prioritizing the Iraqi role in achieving shared objectives, and contributing to the enhancement of stability and the preservation of the country’s sovereignty.”
