The League of Toilers marked the anniversary of the May 17 Agreement, warning against “attempts to reimpose a similar accord through US-Israeli pressure that infringes on Lebanese sovereignty,” and stressing that “the Lebanese brought down the 1983 agreement thanks to the unity of the people and the resistance.”
The league called on current members of parliament to “adhere to the national constants and reject any settlement with the Israeli enemy,” stressing its “rejection of any security or political coordination that serves the occupation,” and considering that “American guarantees are political deception.”
It affirmed that protecting internal stability comes “through national unity and adherence to Lebanon’s right to resist the occupation,” calling on the Lebanese authorities to “withdraw from any direct negotiations that undermine sovereignty.”
The league concluded by stressing that “the Lebanese people will not allow a disguised May 17 to pass,” and that Lebanon will remain “sovereign, free, and independent.”
