In a statement at the United Nations Security Council, Lebanon’s Permanent Representative, Ahmed Arafa, highlighted key points regarding the regional situation and Lebanon’s sovereignty:
“We condemn the Revolutionary Guard’s threats to target American universities.”
“The Lebanese are paying a heavy price due to the war between Israel and Hezbollah.”
“History has taught us that sustainable peace cannot be achieved through occupation, and that only a diplomatic solution can achieve just and lasting peace.”
“We call on countries to pressure Israel to stop its aggression against Lebanon.”
“We call on Iran to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and cease its interference.”
“The Israeli occupation of Lebanon in 1978 did not bring them security.”
“We urged UNIFIL forces to remain in their protected positions to limit losses and damages. However, we cannot ignore the bigger picture, which is the actions of Hezbollah and the Lebanese government.
Statements have been issued, but they are insufficient.”
“Hezbollah dragged Lebanon into war, even though the government was open to dialogue with them.”
Arafa emphasized that Lebanon faces significant challenges due to regional interventions and ongoing conflicts, stressing the need for international efforts to halt aggression and preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability.
