Former President Michel Sleiman emphasized from Baabda Palace the importance of the initiative launched by the President for direct negotiations with Israel, stressing that it is a necessary step to ensure Lebanon’s protection and to implement international resolutions.
Sleiman said:
“We extend our condolences to the families of the martyrs and victims, and we always remember the displaced who spend the holidays away from their homes under difficult circumstances.”
“I also salute the residents of the border strip who remain steadfast on their land; they are not only Christians but Lebanese who show their attachment to Lebanon and its territory.”
“The President announced an initiative for direct negotiations with Israel, and I personally support this step, as countries in the region such as Egypt, Jordan, and Syria have previously conducted negotiations with Israel.”
“Lebanon cannot bear the burden of this conflict alone, and direct negotiations may be better than the indirect talks that lasted for decades and were disrupted with every war launched without a state decision.”
“This initiative comes within the framework of implementing international resolutions, such as UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the Taif Agreement, as well as other resolutions that emphasize the monopoly of weapons by the state.”
