
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited Sednaya Prison in the Damascus countryside today, accompanied by Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Alabi, in a stop laden with significant humanitarian and human rights implications, given what the prison symbolizes in connection with detainee files and violations during the years of the Syrian war.
Guterres’ visit comes as part of his tour of Syria, during which he is reviewing a number of issues related to the transitional phase and international efforts to support stability and address the repercussions of years of conflict.
