The Ministry of Public Works and Transport issued the following statement:
“The Lebanese Canadian University (LCU) hosted Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rassamni for a discussion session titled ‘The Transport Sector in Lebanon: Between the Challenges of the Present and the Aspirations of the Future,’ attended by academic, administrative, student, and media figures, in addition to a municipal delegation headed by the president of the Keserwan al-Ftouh Municipalities Union, Elias al-Baino. Consultations were held on a number of road and infrastructure projects in the Keserwan al-Ftouh area, as part of efforts to strengthen local development and improve public services.
During the meeting, Minister Rassamni stressed that public transport constitutes a fundamental pillar for supporting the national economy, pointing to the ministry’s plans to expand and modernize the public transport network by adding new buses and routes, alongside the introduction of electric buses between Beirut and Byblos and the adoption of modern technologies to enhance safety and operational oversight.
He also addressed the main challenges facing the sector, including encroachments on railway property, the phenomenon of forged vehicle license plates, and attacks targeting public transport buses, underscoring the importance of developing the transport and civil aviation sectors and reviving railway and sustainable transport projects.
For his part, university president Dr. Jalal Helouani stressed the importance of the role of universities in keeping pace with national issues and creating space for constructive dialogue between young people and officials, affirming that the Lebanese Canadian University’s role is not limited to education and graduating generations, but that it also seeks to support development projects that contribute to advancing the region and serving the public interest.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the university’s founder, Dr. Rony Abi Nakhleh, presented a commemorative shield to Minister Rassamni in appreciation of his efforts in following up on public works and transport files and in advancing the development process in Lebanon.”
